Arecibo Lighthouse
Arecibo, Puerto Rico
Arecibo Lighthouse & Historical Park is a theme park of the history of Puerto Rico. Among its attractions you will find: the Taíno Village, replicas of three ships of the Spanish conquest period and a pirate ship, the Barrack of Slaves, domestic animals, a Jíbaro House, a children playground with a 1964 helicopter. One of the main attractions is Pirate’s Lair, an artificial cave that presents images of pirates through various showcases. It can be a little scary for young children and that is why we recommend parents supervision. Inside the cave, there is a small aquarium and a pirate you can take a picture with. For sea lovers it is the Tablado Pirata, a wooden stage, perfect to enjoy the view to the Atlantic Ocean and a great photo spot that provides a background made up of the blue of the sea and the blue of the sky. The Morillos lighthouse, better known as the Arecibo lighthouse, is another important place in the Park. This beautiful lighthouse painted white and blue was built in 1898 and currently its interior houses various artifacts found at the bottom of the sea. Climb the tower and reach the ceiling of the lighthouse and you will receive the impact of the pleasant and refreshing sea breeze. The tour will not take you more than two hours, but you can add to your daytrip a visit to Casi Pesca beach or Posa del Obispo beach, both outside the park. It is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. The entrace fee are $8 per child and $10 per adult, the parking is optional and have a price of $3. They have guided tours and food packages for groups with reservations.
