Museo Cemí Y Residencia Nemesio Canales
Jayuya, Puerto Rico


The Memorial Museum El Cemí is located in the Coabey neighborhood in Jayuya, it was inaugurated on 1989. It is the scene of major cultural events such as the Indigenous Festival of Jayuya. Its structure has the form of a gigantic cemí, a taino divinity and was designed by architect Efren Badia Cabrera. Its exhibits include archaeological pieces from the taino culture, reproductions and photographs of indian petroglyphs and monoliths from de archeology lab of the University of Puerto Rico. You can visit the museum from Monday through Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The entrance fee is $1 per person. The tour will not take you more than an hour. You can also visit the replica of the Nemesio Canales’s historic house, which is just a few steps away from the museum.
