Fort San Felipe del Morro was built by the Spaniards in the sixteenth century. Its purpose was to protect the San Juan bay from enemies who arrived by sea. The most important attacks were:
- Sir Francis Drake - 1595
- Holland - 1625
- Duke of Cumberland - 1598
- United Status - 1898
The Morro is impressive for its dark dungeons, cannons, fortified walls, lighthouse, and its history. On the front of the fort there is a huge area were families gather to fly kites. The entrance cost is $5 for people 16 years old and up. Fort San Felipe del Morro is one of the most visited touristic attractions in Puerto Rico.
